Mack!

NEW CHARACTER ALERT!!

Let’s give a big warm welcome to Mack, the newest member of the Harpton Main crew.

He’s an important character in Almost Human Book 4. I can’t tell you more about his role though… that might just reveal a MASSIVE spoiler!

So, here’s the rundown on Mack:

Name: McKenzie Demir

Occupation: Coffee shop owner/manager

Citizen status: Casher, but with residency in Branley.

Age: 26

Height: 5’ 11”

Hair: Brown, curly, untameable mess.

Eyes: Dark brown. Kind.

Birthday: February 22nd 2099

If I’m honest, in my head he sort of looks a bit like Sam Palladio (I know him best from the show Nashville, but I’m sure he’s been in lots of other shows.)

Family: Mother, Erin. Stepfather, Martin. Younger half-brother, Michael. Biological father: Known, but Mack would rather not name that piece of scum.

Talents: Talented artist. Specifically at sketching.

Personality traits: Patient, kind, struggles with confidence, especially where women are concerned. Chronically low opinion of himself and his roots. People pleaser. Will get angry if pushed.

Backstory: Mack is a product of his mother being sold into the sex trade. His origins are a great source of shame for him, and he constantly asks himself if he shares any traits with his biological father, who is/was a sex trafficker, rapist, and child abuser. His worst fear is that he is anything like his biological father.

His mother married a legitimate citizen, meaning she is now a legitimate by marriage, and their son Michael is also a legitimate citizen by birth. Mack remains a casher. The cost for Martin to adopt Mack and make him a legitimate citizen would be astronomical, and they simply could not afford that. Being a casher in a legitimate family poses all kinds of problems for Mack. People discriminate against him. He was not allowed to attend real school. He was banned from going places his brother was allowed to go. He was a target for every legitimate kid in the area who knew he was a casher. Life has not been easy for Mack.

Mack is first mentioned in book 3 of the Almost Human series. It just so happens that his coffee shop is Collette’s favourite place to drink. 🙂
